PROJECT | EUROPA
I am european. YET I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO MEAN
WHERE IS EUROPA? A journey between globalism and nationalism, between institutions and the people who live under them. Into borderlands, forgotten towns, local kitchens and contested territories.

Myth |
Once, there was a girl named Europa. A princess of Tyre, in what is now Lebanon. She came from the East. Zeus took the shape of a white bull and carried her across the sea to Crete. He raped her and abandoned her on a Cretan beach. Her brothers went looking and never found her. She vanished.
The name did not. First it meant a stretch of Greek mainland. Then everything north of the sea. A continent named after a woman who never set foot on the mainland that carries her name.
Project |
Today, everybody speaks in her name. Everybody has a plan for Europe. Nobody asked the Europeans.
Whose Europe? A continent carved up by empires, crowns and wars. Dozens of peoples. Dozens of tongues. Centuries of bleeding over land, borders and power. Then, out of the ruins, a contract: markets, treaties, and a bureaucracy that never stops growing.
Who gave Europe its identity? Why did a continent become a project?

The Search |
We go looking beyond the corridors of power. Into borderlands, forgotten towns, roadside kitchens and village squares.
Through photography, encounters and written dispatches, PROJECT EUROPA explores the relationship between people, territory, identity and power. The places where grand political ambitions meet everyday reality. Where history remains visible, traditions survive and the consequences of political decisions become tangible.
Dispatches from where the living Europe clashes with the administered one.
-
The Future |
Dispatches from a continent at war with itself.
Somewhere between centralisation and self-determination, a fundamental question remains unanswered: what actually holds Europe together?
The journey looks forward as much as it looks back. What happens when nations reclaim their sovereignty? What might European cooperation look like when built around the people and places it is supposed to serve?
Thirty years after the question was first raised, the search continues.
Where is Europa?
